Definition Magazine's September 2019 issue featured an article by Gary Adcock discussing the use of IB/E Optics' Raptor macro prime lenses on a recent shoot.
The IB/E Raptor macro lenses were the perfect glass to match up with the Sony VENICE full-frame- camera.
The Raptor FF Macro Prime Lens Kit with Lens Case from IB/E Optics includes a 60, 100, 150 and 180mm focal length T2.9 macro focus lenses. the lenses produce an image circle of 53mm, which more than covers full-frame sensors, including the sensor in the Red 8K Weapon. Each lens will focus from infinity down to macro focus (1:1 object-to-image ratio) without requiring additional optics.
As you would expect from a cine lens, each lens features an internal focus design for a non-rotating front, and a 95mm front and consistent focus and iris gear position across the set. The 320° of focus rotation provides room for precise focus pulls. The lenses are designed with a universal mounting system that permits swapping of mounts, this set ships in PL mount, in a custom lens case.
- This set of lenses can focus from infinity all the way down to 1:1 image size ratio. Focus measurements are inscribed on the lens in yellow. Magnification and exposure compensation markings are inscribed in red and blue respectively. These markings appear on the focus scale where pertinent. Each lens incorporates a universal mounting system, making it simple to swap lens mounts. This set of Raptor FF Macro Primes ship with a PL mount.
- The use of a 9-blade iris produces a smooth round appearance to out of focus specular highlights. The iris also produces a pleasing bokeh, referring to natural looking out of focus areas of the image. The iris is manual and features smooth movement without click stops for smooth exposure adjustments while recording.
- The lenses share common front lens diameters and gear positioning on the focus and iris rings, making lens switching quick and convenient. Additionally, the focus ring features 320º of smooth rotation to help facilitate consistently accurate focusing especially when pulling focus during a shot.
